Top Ten FAQ
Do I need an Appointment or do you accept walk-ins?
We generally work on appointment, but we sometimes have availability for walk-ins. It’s a good idea to call ahead and ask.
Does my pet need to be vaccinated?
Yes. In accordance with New York state law, all dogs must be vaccinated for Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella. Cats require a Rabies vaccination. You may upload your pet’s vaccination records online, or bring them in when you drop off your pet.
How often should I bring my dog in for a full groom?
Most pets should come in every 6-8 weeks. In-between we recommend bringing them in for side services (nail clipping, bath and brush, ect.) every 3 weeks.
How long does a full groom generally take?
Time depends on a variety of factors, but two hours is a general baseline. Some breeds and cuts may take as long a 3-4 hours. This will be discussed when you drop off your pet. You will be called to pickup about 10-15 minutes before we finish with them. When not being serviced dogs and cats will be be kenneled.
Can I stay with my pet while they’re being groomed?
Yes, though it depends on how the animal reacts to your presence. If you want to stay by your pet’s side through the whole grooming process we call that a “private session” and should be requested in advance.
When is the best time to take a puppy in for their first grooming?
After the first round of vaccines, it is recommended to bring your puppy in for a bath and brush, nails and ears to help them to become accustomed to the grooming process and environment. The puppy should get used to being alone with the groomer it best that you drop them off and come back.
Do you groom older dogs and cats?
Yes! We will groom your older dog or cat so long as the process is not unduly painful or distressing to the animal. We will treat your older pet with love and patience to help them to look their very best.
Do you use heated cage dryers?
No. We use heatless cage fans and force dryers on your pet’s coat.
Should I feed my pet before I bring them in to be groomed?
No, while you may feed your pet at your leisure the day before, it is NOT recommended that you feed your pet 3-4 hours before they are to be groomed. It is also best practice to take your dog for a walk before you take them to be groomed. Grooming is a stressful process for the animal and these practices minimize accidents.
My pet is aggressive and/or fearful. Can they still be professionally groomed?
While we take on dogs and cats of all temperaments and conditions here at CPPS, it is important that you discuss any issues with your groomer beforehand.
